Verisk Analytics (VRSK) Drops After Full-Year Guidance Falls Short of Estimates

VERISK ANALYTICS INC (NASDAQ:VRSK) reported second-quarter results that largely matched analyst expectations on both the top and bottom lines, but a softer-than-anticipated full-year outlook appears to be weighing on the stock in early trading.

Q2 Results in Line With Expectations

For the quarter ended June 30, revenue came in at $806 million, slightly below the consensus estimate of $820 million. The deviation was less than 2%, making the top-line result essentially in line with what analysts had modeled. Adjusted earnings per share of $1.98 edged past the $1.97 forecast, also within that narrow tolerance. On an organic constant currency basis, revenue rose 5.8%, accelerating from prior periods and reflecting the sequential improvement management had previously guided toward.

The company’s underlying subscription revenue grew 8.0% year over year, underscoring the recurring nature of its insurance-data analytics services. Adjusted EBITDA increased 7.4% on an organic constant currency basis to $464 million, holding the margin roughly flat at 57.5%.

Full-Year Outlook Misses Analyst Forecasts

While second-quarter figures were within the expected range, Verisk’s reaffirmed full-year 2026 guidance fell short of what analysts are projecting. The company reiterated:

  • Full-year adjusted EPS in a range of $7.45 to $7.75
  • Total revenue between $3.19 billion and $3.24 billion

By comparison, sell-side estimates call for adjusted EPS of $7.81 and revenue of $3.29 billion. The midpoint of the company’s guidance for both metrics sits below those numbers, which helps explain the negative market reaction. Pre-market trading points to a decline of roughly 3.7%, as investors digest a more conservative outlook.

Key Financial Highlights

  • Revenue: $806 million (up 4.3% reported, up 5.8% OCC)
  • Diluted adjusted EPS: $1.98 (up 5.3%)
  • Adjusted EBITDA: $464 million (up 4.2% reported, up 7.4% OCC)
  • Free cash flow: $298 million (up 57.9%)
  • Operating cash flow: $366 million (up 49.7%)

Both underwriting and claims segments contributed to growth. Underwriting revenue increased 5.6% on an OCC basis, driven by price increases and expanded catastrophe risk solutions. Claims revenue rose 6.1% on an OCC basis, supported by anti-fraud analytics and property restoration offerings.

Market Reaction and Valuation

The pre-market sell-off suggests that even a slight revenue shortfall, combined with a guidance gap relative to the Street, is enough to temper enthusiasm for a stock that had rallied over 18% in the past month. Investors may also be focusing on the higher net interest expense and a rising effective tax rate, which weighed on GAAP net income (down 9.8%). That said, strong free cash flow generation and a $200 million accelerated share repurchase program demonstrate the company’s ongoing commitment to returning capital.
